Champion in red
After a long courtship by Mister Ferrari, as Jody himself called him, he arrived in the Motor Valley at the Cavallino headquarter. With the red he ran the 1979 and 1980 seasons. The Ferrari Team gave him the dream that every driver would like to fulfill: to become World Champion. He succeeded in 1979 with the 312T4, a dominant single-seater that was perfectly suited to the driving style of Scheckter and his teammate, the young Gilles Villeneuve, who was also his main contender for the title. The crown arrives, after three seasonal victories, at Monza with a double that the redhead hadn’t achieved on the home circuit since 1966. The relationship between Jody and Gilles was made of enormous esteem and mutual respect that never went to affect their duels on the track always correct and within the limits. Theirs was an important human partnership especially for Ferrari which could count on a great collaboration of the two drivers.
