The Ninth Doctor is the ninth incarnation of the protagonist of Doctor Who, played by actor Christopher Eccleston since 2005.
According to the plot of the series, the Doctor is a time traveler, a humanoid alien belonging to a race known as the Time Lords. When the Doctor is seriously injured, he can regenerate his body, but this involves completely changing his appearance as well as his personality. The focal point of his outfit is a rather battered, double-breasted black leather jacket, comparable to those worn by German U-boat captains. The Doctor is particularly fond of the jacket and rarely goes out without it. Along with the jacket, he wears a series of solid-coloured V-neck jumpers: dark blue, army green, dark purple and black. Completing his outfit are a pair of black trousers, with a matching black leather belt and a black-strap wristwatch, which he often looks at to find out the dates and years in which they are located.
